Description
Our Silicone Fluid, also known as Silicone Oil, is a Dow Corning grade 200/50CS.
Silicone Fluid can be used for softening RTV Silicones; by adding 5% by weight, you will reduce the Shore A by around 3. Higher additions will produce very soft silicones, however, this does weaken the silicone and reduce its tear strength and surface resistance. We have known uses to add 25% of Silicone Fluid, this produces an extremely soft and spongy, flexible silicone.
Adding Silicone Fluid will also reduce the viscosity of your silicone, making it less prone to air retention.
Silicone Fluid can also be used for smoothing out a thickened brush-on silicone. Using a brush dipped in the fluid you can smooth out the wet silicone without it sticking to the brush, ideal for smoothing out a final coat of brush-on silicone, prior to making the support jacket (mother mould).
